Matt Duchene Out for Three Months After Surgery

Dallas Stars forward Matt Duchene will be absent from the ice for up to three months due to core muscle surgery, the team announced. The 35-year-old has not played yet this season and was already on injured reserve. His last game was when the Stars were ousted from the playoffs last season by the Minnesota Wild.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan did not specify how the injury occurred but mentioned that it was a chronic issue no longer to be ignored. Duchene’s absence is a significant hit to the team as he is a versatile player capable of performing in multiple forward roles. Last season, he was sidelined by a concussion, but this year’s physical injury is more straightforward to manage, according to Gulutzan.

Gulutzan expressed optimism about Duchene’s recovery, noting the physical nature of his surgery makes the recovery process more predictable. Last season’s hurdles included navigating multiple injuries, but the coach emphasized the importance of maintaining team spirit and adapting roles accordingly. Duchene ended the previous season scoring 16 goals and making 45 points in 57 games. The Stars’ current season record is 2-2-1.
