Travis Etienne Jr Placed on IR by New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have announced that running back Travis Etienne Jr. will be out of action for at least the next four games due to being placed on injured reserve. This decision follows Etienne’s hamstring injury sustained during a Week 3 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore expressed uncertainty about the exact return time for Etienne but confirmed that the injury would need around four weeks to reassess. Thankfully, Etienne’s injury does not require surgical intervention. The team plans to monitor his recovery closely before making further decisions.

In Etienne’s absence, the workload in the Saints’ backfield will be shared primarily between Kendre Miller, Alvin Kamara, and rookie CJ Donaldson, particularly in short-yardage situations. Moore showed confidence in these players’ abilities to manage the increased responsibilities. Additionally, the Saints bolstered their depth by signing Ulysses Bentley IV to the practice squad.

Etienne’s temporary loss is significant given the team’s recent commitment to him through a substantial contract in the off-season, highlighting his expected role in their offensive strategy. The dynamics within the Saints’ running game are set to shift as they adapt to his absence in the coming games.
